Fundraising strategy and value creation platform for an early-stage VC

The Context

Warioba Ventures is an early-stage investment firm backing tech-enabled startups across the African Great Lakes region. As the firm prepared to raise its inaugural fund, it needed more than a pitch deck. It needed a clear story for different investor types, a defensible approach to supporting the portfolio, and the infrastructure to execute both.

My Role

Strategy consultant. I designed a fundraising strategy, a value-creation model, and an LP communications playbook for the firm. I also provided advisory support to portfolio company Tunzaa (detailed separately). I did not manage LP relationships, close commitments, or lead outreach execution.

Approach

  • Segmented potential LPs by type, motivation, and risk concern — then developed tailored messaging, talking points, and proof points for each

  • Built an LP pipeline tracker

  • Designed a value creation model to improve portfolio company performance in thin-data markets, covering GTM support, ecosystem mapping, and structured partner pilots

  • Created an expert advisor pool to extend portfolio support without building a heavy internal team

Outputs

Fundraising strategy document, LP segmentation framework, pipeline tracker, communications playbook, and value creation model. Outreach execution subject to GP go-ahead. Engagement is ongoing as the fund moves toward first close.
