Vertical expansion strategy and product concept for the digital identity venture YES:ID

The Context

YES:ID is a Tanzanian digital identity venture with an established verification product. The team had a general-purpose concept for employee background checks but lacked a defined vertical focus, product architecture, or go-to-market strategy.

My Role

Strategy consultant. I identified a high-value industry vertical and developed the full product concept, go-to-market strategy, and operational architecture — taking a generic starting point and turning it into a market-ready vertical strategy. I did not lead product build, engineering, or commercial execution.

Approach

  • Identified a priority vertical where trust infrastructure could unlock significant value

  • Designed a tiered verification model with progression logic and incentives for multiple stakeholders

  • Developed the partnership and go-to-market architecture

  • Created the data governance and privacy framework

  • Mapped operational workflows end-to-end

  • Built a financial model to test unit economics and adoption scenarios

Outputs

Product concept, vertical strategy, partnership framework, operational architecture, and financial model — used by the team in business development and investor conversations.

Confidentiality note

This case study is intentionally high-level due to commercial confidentiality.
